Yes. A refund is a check or direct deposit issued with funds withdrawn from your student account. To facilitate this withdrawal, refunds are "charged" to your student account.
In most situations, the refund check corresponds to a particular credit on your student account, such as an excess student loan, an overpayment, or a credit from your department. The credit is effectively a reversal of the refund charge, resulting in a net charge of $0.
If the refund is issued by direct deposit, funds are typically received in the bank account established in your my.harvard refund profile in a few days. Refunds by check should be received within two weeks at the mailing address specified in my.harvard
Viewed from a different perspective, the refund charge allows the necessary credits to be disbursed twice (once on your student account and once by direct deposit/check), while the actual refund is, as expected, only received once.
Should any other questions about your refund arise, please contact us.
Items on your student account are charged by many different departments within Harvard. These charges can only be modified or removed by the department that originally applied the charge. If you know where your charges originated, you can contact the department directly. See Questions About Charges for a list of departments that frequently post charges. If you are unsure where your charges originated, please contact us.
If you have a credit balance on your student account, you may be eligible for a refund. You can find out who to contact to request a refund by using our refund questionnaire.
